I know…Australia Day was technically yesterday, but we’re still celebrating here on PST and I’m ready to share a few down under home good tips that I wish made it back in my suitcase.
There is definitely not a shortage of amazing boutiques in the southern hemisphere. In fact, it makes me wonder what Los Angeles is doing wrong. Why do we fail in original home goods, sustainable local designers, amazing hand made ceramics? Granted we have them. Lots of them, actually. Are they just less accessible, harder to find and more expensive… and why? And for that mater… why are boutiques not as inviting, lovely and magical as they seem in Australia? That country is an Etsy wonderland. Realy!!
Each and every door I passed, regardless of locale on main street or alleyway, was showcasing amazing artists in a lovely, well designed and unpretentious boutique. Each shop gal/man was open armed, friendly and all the goods were reasonably priced. Whether you’re a window browser or focused buyer… everyone I met was just happy to see that you are present, looking and possibly interested…refreshing.
Shops take note!
Oh and while on the wonderland topic: Dear America, please start stocking Aesop in as many retailers as possible…..highly addictive, highly luxurious and I’m in love with you! The entire product line….AH!
Sigh, No really. Soap and lotion was the only souvenir I brought home with me… and it was worth every little bit of carry on space!!! Mmmmmm.

I think LA can't get its arms around the idea of the sorts of shops you describe because Angelinos always crave Brands. The bigger the better. GREG
