Oh Palm Springs, you coy little city. How you effortlessly flirt your way into my life every spring. How you convince me that gold lame, muumuus and that second bottle of champagne were all good ideas. How you so kindly wave me in with your hundreds of white desert windmills and perfectly temperate pools… and make leaving all the more difficult with hurdles of date shakes, outlet shopping binges and dinosaur photo ops. You are all the golden aged glamor I ever hope to be…a mid century modern with 3 bedrooms and two baths and a mountain view preferably.
Every Spring a group of my girlfriends head out to the dessert and rent a house for a weekend full of sun, spritzers and probably 100 pounds of hummus. If you follow me on Instagram, you may have seen a departure from the usual food photos and way too coverage of hot tub happy hour, bubbly and just overall insanity (I’m sorry and you’re welcome). This year ’round, the fine folks at The Parker Hotel invited me over to sample some small bites, sassy cocktails and allow me to droll all over the wonderment that is Jonathan Adler design.
Let’s rehash this magic!
Before I even get started on my new favorite cocktail (above) – I must make note: Parker…Your valet team in the pink pants with all that spunk and love…god bless them. I heart them big time. They are adorabs and will give you perfectly chilled water upon your arrival. Hugs from this overly dehydrated (shouldn’t be in the desert in the first place) red head!
Okay. Caprese Martini. I’ll be honest…I’ve been getting a little more salad veg heavy in my cocktails on the recent. I am a savory palate kinda gal, after all and it is going to take a special concoction to lure me away from my spicy pepper libations of late. Luckily, The Parker’s Food & Drink Director Mr. Brett Stanley took me up on the challenge.
Boom! Enter delicious.
There is no questioning Adler’s manifesto of “Minimalism is a bummer” when walking through The Parker’s front doors. There is so much life, color, texture….Wahhhhh, When can I move in? Or more importantly when shall I send the moving van to collect all these treasures? Am I really snuggling these velvet chairs right now? Yeah I am…Wow.
Three words: Over. The. Top.
Also: My personal dream-land.
I can see the connection between design and the menu at Mr. Parker. Full of life, layers and absolutely nothing is taken too seriously. Did you see that dinner plate detail? Yeah, you did. Fun times.
If the lobby couldn’t be more fabulous, you should try taking a spin around the gardens. They are extensive. Fire pits, hammocks, croquet, lawn bowling…a lemon aid stand!? Yes, it’s ridiculous and you love it. You will crush over every single detailed decision made with this place right down to the bungalow rooms having human names. Yes, I’ll be staying over at the Noah for the next 4 nights.
Can we please take a moment to talk about this Tartare De Thon? A flat bread smothered with tuna, lemon crème fraiche and wasabi tobiko caviar? I don’t care if you don’t even like caviar…it is a must in Palm Springs. As is a drink involving bubbles and synchronized swimming. Everything must be over the top or lacquered in gold.
Okay…not really. But seriously. Common! This place is beyond. Even if you don’t plan to stay here during your desert visit, I highly recommended swooping through to take in all the design eye candy, a happy hour bevvy & bite, a quick lawn sport match and soak up the luxury that is Palm Springs. The Parker does it right and I’ll be back…Specifically for the Pie Shake.
Yeah, you heard me right. Pie Shake.
Now go make yourself a little summer cocktail and start plotting your own desert adventure. Woop!
